JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A group of first responders stops in the capital city during their cross country trek to honor their fallen colleagues of 9-11.
The Jackson Fire Department escorted the group of 36 runners, they are firefighters, policemen and paramedics. This is one of the teams who left New Orleans earlier Saturday.
The runners have come from across the U.S. and even Australia. Their goal is to arrive at the World Trade Center site on September 11th.
They left Santa Monica, California on August 12th.
"It is our way as emergency service workers to pay our respect to the people who were taken from us. We figured now being the ninth anniversary a good time and to leave the 10th to the people of New York. But it is a worldwide club that we're in," said Tour of Duty Event Director, Paul Richie.
Along the way they are raising money for a variety of 9-11 related charities.
