JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – Sunday afternoon Jackson police investigated what they are calling an accidental shooting in the Presidential Hills subdivision.

J.P.D. spokesperson Officer Colendula Green said it happened in the 3600 block of James Monroe Drive near the intersection of George Washington Drive.

Officers responded to the scene where they said friends were gathered and handling a handgun.

A man who lived at the residence was shot once.

His name was not released.

Two other men at the home at the time of the shooting were placed in separate police cars and questioned.

"There were two male subjects sitting underneath a carport at the 3,000 block of James Monroe playing with a weapon. The weapon was discharged, striking one of the male subjects in the head. The male subject was transported to U.M.C.," said Officer Green.

Police said the victim was listed in stable condition.
