MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - A Madisonville man has been indicted after investigators say his wife was eaten by maggots as she lay in her bed dying.

Darrel White has been indicted on charges of failure to provide for a functionally impaired person and involuntary manslaughter.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office says White's wife, Jorene White, was in her 40's and suffered from severe arthritis.

Emergency crews responded to the home of Darrel and Jorene White in the 4400 block of Plainville Road during the early morning hours of July 23. Jorene White was pronounced dead at the scene and police responded to investigate her death about a half hour later.

Julie Wilson, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office described the case as a "horrible thing."

Wilson said the house was in "filthy" conditions. Police believed Jorene White had been dead for more than a week before emergency crews were called. However, the Hamilton County coroner's office said she hadn't been dead more than a day.

When contacted by FOX19 Darrel White said he did not know about the indictment.
