JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - President Barack Obama announced a $50 billion transportation improvement plan Monday. Part of that plan will rebuild 150-thousand miles of roadways.
This comes as a new study says Mississippi and Alabama have made impressive improvements to their road systems. Mississippi has improved from 28th in 2007 to 16th in the nation when it comes to highway performance and cost effectiveness.
The report from the nonprofit think tank, Reason Foundation, ranks each state's interstate highways on congestion, pavement condition, deficient bridges and fatalities. Mississippi ranks 45th in fatalities.
