PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A former bookkeeper for the Christian-based drug & alcohol recovery program Home of Grace has been sentenced to two years of house arrest after admitting she took nearly $200,000 from the organization.
The Sun Herald reports that Jackson County Circuit Judge Dale Harkey also ordered eight years of post-release supervision for Barbara Hamil Wassman.
Wassman, who also served as an admission clerk at the nonprofit center in Vancleave, was ordered to pay $200,751 in restitution, which includes the amount of embezzled funds plus a $1,000 fine and court costs.
Prosecutors say Home of Grace officials noticed discrepancies in records about a month after Wassman was dismissed from her job.
