JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- A federal jury has awarded thousands to a Jackson man who accused three city detention officers of standing by and allowing another officer to attack him.
Friday the jury ordered $64,000 paid to 30-year-old Maryland Singleton. Singleton says he suffered a fractured cheekbone, broken jaw and nose and other injuries during the attack in a holding cell at Jackson police headquarters in 2005.
The officer who allegedly attacked Singleton could not be found as a defendant. The judgment is against the other three former officers. The city was also dismissed as a defendant.
