JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- The city of Jackson hopes to collect some of the $10 million dollars in outstanding fines by offering two days of amnesty.
People who owe parking, traffic and certain misdemeanor fines can pay them next Thursday and Friday at JPD headquarters to avoid jail time or threat of arrest.
City Spokesman Chris Mims says the move is one way of getting people to pay. The city collected about $135,000 during a two-day amnesty in 2009. Mims says the capital city has also hired a debt collection company to help recoup unpaid fines.
