OSHA fines Lexington business

LEXINGTON, Miss. (AP) - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed penalties of $60,076 for Lexington Homes Inc. for 40 alleged safety and health violations.

OSHA said in a news release Tuesday that the citations come after an inspection of the company in Lexington that began in April.

OSHA says the company was cited for 32 serious safety violations including failures to install guardrails along open platforms, to conduct periodic inspections of crane and hoist chains and to separate oxygen and fuel gas cylinders.

A separate health inspection revealed a failure to implement a written hazard communication program to address labeling and hazard training.

The company also allegedly allowed an employee to use an unapproved respirator.

The company may contest the citations and proposed fines.
