Former Frank Melton bodyguard lands job in Hinds County S.O.

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A former Jackson police officer and bodyguard to the late Mayor Frank Melton has a new law enforcement job.

Michael Recio is now a detention officer with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department. Spokesman Jeff Scott confirmed Recio has been assigned to the Raymond Detention Center where he will supervise state inmates.

Scott said Recio has satisfied all of the conditions of his court ordered probation.

Recio was banned from law enforcement employment for a year as part of the punishment for his part in the 2006 sledgehammer raid on a Ridgeway Street duplex.

Scott said Marcus Wright, who was also a former police bodyguard for Melton, has applied for a job with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department, but has not been hired.
