CANTON, MS (WLBT) Canton police are investigating two burglaries from Wednesday night.
A group of students in church were the target of one of the crimes. Police say the first incident happened at Canton First Baptist Church, located at 3316 South Liberty Street.
Investigators say someone went in another part of the building and took four purses, while a group of children were attending a bible study.
Wallets, cell phones, cash and digital cameras were all reported missing. Another burglary occurred at this closed business at 2075 Highway 43 north.
The owners of the building reported a large amount of copper was taken from inside the old furniture factory. In both cases, the thieves were able to escape, without being detected.
"We don't want these type of crimes occurring in our community, we want the community to feel safe and the best way of doing that is to catch criminals as they commit crimes," said Canton Police Chief Vickie McNeil.
Anyone with any information on the two burglaries is asked to call the Canton Police Department.
