HINDS COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - An autopsy on the badly decomposed body found on a Edwards hog farm revealed the victim died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck. Although dental records will be needed to determine if it is 81-year-old Ethel Simpson of Clinton, authorities believe they've found the missing woman.
The man last seen with Simpson has been captured in Alabama. Thirty-nine-year old James Hutto, a convicted sex offender, was arrested near Auburn while driving Simpson's Mercedes Friday. Clinton Police Chief Don Byington said his investigators have questioned Hutto and turned over the information to the Hinds County Sheriff's Department now heading up the investigation.
"I hope he gets what coming to him," said Simpson's neighbor Robert Lee. He has lived on Arlington Street in Clinton, right across from Simpson since 1963.
"This was a shock for me that she got involved with this fella," said Lee. He said he is not surprised she wanted to help someone she thought was in need. Those close to Simpson said that's the picture Hutto painted for her.
"He just preyed on a big hearted elderly lady," said Baptist Health Plex employee Jan Cossitt. "She said he had not told anybody that he had cancer, had no family. "
Simpson met Hutto at the Baptist Health Plex Monday afternoon. They ate at Taco Bell, then she dropped him off at the Comfort Inn. Both were last seen at Riverwalk Casino in Vicksburg. Authorities are still piecing together what happened after Simpson and Hutto left together Monday night.
Hutto has been charged with robbing and stabbing a man multiple times in Lee County, Alabama Friday morning. The day before a member of Hutto's family was found dead in her Birmingham home.
