GULFPORT, MS (WLBT)- One-thousand people lace up their running shoes for the 15th annual Seabee Mud Run in Gulfport.
Organizers say Saturdays's event brought out the largest group of runners in its history. Participants ran a five mile obstacle course through the mud on the Seabee base.
Seabees say it was a great way for them to connect to the public and allow the public an opportunity to come on base.
"We get a lot of support from the local community. We have a difficult job and we have our base here in the local community and we want to give back a little bit for all the support we get", said Base Commander Captain Louis Cariello".
The Seabees raised $27,000 from Saturday's mud run.
