LAUREL, Miss. (AP) - The trial for an 18-year-old man charged with wounding a Laurel police officer while being sought for escaping jail is scheduled for Wednesday in Jones County Circuit Court.

The Laurel Leader-Call reports police officer Kim Stewart was shot in December when she had gone to a local home in search of Ira Hadley Jr. Police say Hadley, who had escaped in October from the county jail, shot Stewart twice. Stewart recovered from her wounds.

Hadley was serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery when he escaped.

Prosecutors say he stand trial on charges including aggravated assault of a police officer and felony possession of a firearm.
