LUCEDALE, Miss. (AP) - The two suspects charged in the July 21 death of George County Sheriff Garry Welford are scheduled to return to court Oct. 29 for a preliminary hearing.
Prosecuting attorney Mark Maples says 24-year-old Christopher Lee Baxter and 18-year-old Brandy Nicole Williams were charged with capital murder in Welford's death.
Maples tells The Sun Herald that attorneys have been appointed to represent Baxter and Williams.
He says the suspects currently remain jailed without bond, which is typical in a capital murder case.
Baxter and Williams are accused of running over the 63-year-old sheriff as he was attempting to stop their pickup.
Deputies were searching for Baxter because he missed his sentencing in a drug case.
