OCEAN SPINGS, Miss. (AP) - A 2-year-old drowned in a backyard swimming pool Sunday, the second toddler in less than a day to die in a pool along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd tells The Sun Herald that Caleb Holtzburger of Ocean Springs opened a door that lead outside to the family's swimming pool.
Authorities said Holtzburger's mother found the toddler floating face down Sunday morning. Byrd called it a "heartbreaking accident."
Harrison County authorities say 3-year-old William Montjoy drowned Saturday in a pool at the Pass Christian Yacht Club.
Authorities say Montjoy wandered away from a group of children playing under the Yacht Club building. The boy's grandfather tells the newspaper that the pool was closed and not in use, but a gate had been left unlocked.
