CANTON, MS (WLBT) - Canton fire officials are investigating a trailer fire that left two children hospitalized Tuesday.

The fire occurred just after midnight at 114 3rd Avenue Tuesday, at the West Side trailer park.

Two sisters, Thaily Venegas age 7, and Aleida Ortiz, age 3 were hospitalized after suffering heavy smoke inhalation.

Their mother Marcela Venegas says they were rescued by an uncle, who cut a hole in the side of the trailer to get them out.

"We lost everything, at least I didn't lose my two girls", says Venegas.

The trailer and everything inside was destroyed.  The cause is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall's office.

The Red Cross and the Sacred Heart Church of Canton are assisting the family.

They need children's clothes for little girls, and female adult clothes.   Anyone wanting to make a donation is asked to call, 601-859-3749.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
