BYRAM, MS (WLBT) - A home invasion case in Byram last week has been solved.
Two men are behind bars thanks to a joint effort between the Hinds County Sheriff's Department and Jackson police.
30- year-old Cedric Varnell and 21-year-old Jeffrey Levy are charged with armed robbery.
WLBT was on the scene the morning of the crime in the Lake Dockery area.
Lt. Jeffery Scott, spokesman for the Hinds County Sheriff's Department said, "We believe that these individuals are responsible for several other burglaries in the south Jackson as well as Byram area, we were able to put the pieces together and determine that these were the individuals who broke into the home."
According to Scott, Sgt. Richard Brown worked closely with JPD officer Richard Robertson.
Robertson had spotted the suspects loading a 42 inch flat screen television. That led to the arrest of one suspect and then interviews with him resulted in the second arrest.
The mother of the home invasion victim, Brenda Williams told us what happened September 20th, shortly after she left her Byram home for her Hazlehurst nursing job around 4 a.m. Her son Jeremy heard a knock on the door.
"I'm just glad my son is here now, we will get all this other stuff back, but knowing his life has been spared, that's a real blessing."
The mother of the victim had just moved to the Lake Dockery section of Byram two months ago. She told us then you have to look out for crime, it can be anywhere.
