JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - One person is dead and another injured following a police pursuit early Thursday morning.

An eyewitness says around 2:00 a.m., it began at Gallatin Street and ended on Interstate 20.

"It was engulfed in flames," said Timothy Byrd of a white Cadillac with a Hinds County license tag.

Byrd, a security guard for A-1 Security, says the driver of the Cadillac led a caravan of about three or four police cars on a high-speed chase from Gallatin to the westbound lanes of Interstate 20.   The driver has been identified as 49-year-old Selwyn Langdon.

"When he got onto the interstate, he jumped the median, then he ran head-on into a brown SUV," Byrd said.

Police shut down I-20 as they worked to help 67-year-old Robert Williams, the driver of a gold GMC Yukon SUV. Williams was put on a stretcher, rolled to the ambulance and taken to University Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green says it was not a high-speed chase.

"Officers were dispatched to a man-with-a-gun call at 1714 Regency Inn," she told WLBT.

Green says Langdon apparently had some type of dispute with his girlfriend, and when police were called, he took off.

The result was a tire knocked from its wheel and glass littering the interstate.

A tarp covered the driver's side of the Cadillac.

"The driver of the Cadillac is deceased," Green said.
