JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Mississippi native was honored Thursday afternoon for her latest move up the career ladder in education.
A special reception was held at the State Department of Education in Jackson for Dr. Melody Musgrove.
She was recently named the Director of the Office of Special Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education.
A number of educational advocacy organizations were on hand to congratulate Musgrove on her new position.
"I'm very excited to have an opportunity to go to Washington and represent the best interest of almost 7 million children with disabilities in the United States and to be a great ambassador for Mississippi, so it's a great opportunity, I'm very excited about being there," said Musgrove.
Throughout her career, Musgrove has served in a number of roles including special education teacher and school administrator.
