MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Lauderdale County authorities say a teenager's willingness to confide in his family probably prevented the boy from becoming a sexual assault victim.
Police have charged a 29-year-old Meridian man with child exploitation after he allegedly tried to have a rendezvous with the teenager, whom he had met online.
Lauderdale County Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said the man came to a Causeyville home on Saturday, hoping to see the teen, but was instead greeted by eight deputies.
Calhoun told The Meridian Star that the teen made the right decision to show his parents comments the man made online. He said the parents did the right thing by calling police.
Calhoun said more charges are likely in the case. The investigation lasted nearly three weeks.
