JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Perfect weather welcomed the opening of the 151st Mississippi State Fair Wednesday.
Last year it rained half of the days the fair was opened, leading to dismal attendance.
Expectations are higher this year.
This entire event is run by North American Midway Entertainment, a Mississippi, company based out of Ridgeland.
They've been here for 27 years providing all the fun.
Midway is the largest traveling amusement park in the United States. They have 375 employees here on any given day, running the rides and all the booths.
There are 31 rides on the midway this year for thrill seekers. There are 60 in all if you include the kiddie rides and others that aren't too scary. Fair organizers say no matter how much fun they provide, the weather has to cooperate, and this year looks a lot better than last year.
Some Mississippians got an early taste of the fair food this noon. The gates on the midway opened at 11 for people to sample some of the food from the vendors.
They have all the items you have come to love over the years, including pronto pups and funnel cakes, and some new ones. How does a donut hamburger sound?
See you at the fair!
