JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation announced the start of construction to add additional travel lanes to I-20 eastbound and westbound from Pearson in Pearl to Greenfield Road in Brandon.
I-20 currently has two travel lanes east and west between these locations. After completion of this project, I-20 will have three travel lanes in each direction. In addition to the new lanes on I-20, this project will increase the capacity of the eastbound exit ramp at Airport Road and Greenfield Road from a single-lane exit ramp to a two-lane exit ramp.
Clearing of trees in the median to make room for the new lanes has started and will be completed during nightly lane closures until the clearing is complete.
Temporary lane closures will only be allowed on I-20 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday night. No closures will be allowed on I-20 during the day or on Sundays.
Cross street lane closures will be allowed Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Pearson Road, Airport Road, and Greenfield Road.
Currently, median barriers have been placed on I-20 eastbound and westbound across the Pearson Road Bridge to begin the work to widen the bridge.
