WARREN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - The Warren County Sheriffs Department is investigating the discovery of a dozen fighting Pit bulls. The dogs were found by firefighters working a brush fire near the county line Friday.

The dogs were tied up with chains to trees in a wooded area, with no food, water, and very little shelter.

Sheriff Martin Pace says all but two had scars from fighting.

The property owner where the dogs were discovered was not aware they were being held there.

"In Mississippi, possession of dogs for the purpose of fighting is illegal and that's what were pursuing at this point,"  said Pace.

The dogs are being held as evidence as authorities search for their owners.

Georgia Lynn of the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society says, "It's a crime against humanity, and to do this to animals is just sick!"

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Warren County Sheriffs Department.
