Man charged in Rankin Co. police chase

Posted: Updated:

BRANDON, MS (WLBT) -  A drunk driver is behind bars facing multiple charges after leading several law enforcement agencies on a high speed chase in Rankin County over the weekend.

This all started in Richland around 9:30 Saturday night and ended in a wreck that shut down an eastbound lane of Interstate 20 near Brandon.

38-year-old Mark Allen, III of Toomsuba is charged with three traffic violations and possession of marijuana.

Richland police say an officer attempted to pull Allen over on old Highway 49, but he never stopped.

Officers chased Allen's Chevrolet pickup into Byram, then into Jackson, and finally through Rankin County. That's when other law enforcement agencies joined the pursuit.

During the chase, a sheriff deputy's patrol car caught fire.

Officers were finally able to stop Allen using spike strips.

Bond has been set at $200,000 dollars.
