Miss. DOT to dedicate bridge artwork

Posted: Updated:

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation on Thursday will honor the artists whose work was recently installed on the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge.

The event will held in the parking lot of the Isle of Capri Casino Resort in Biloxi.

Speakers will include Transportation Commissioner Wayne Brown, Mayor A.J. Holloway of Biloxi and Mayor Connie Moran of Ocean Springs.

Local artists submitted paintings and drawings on subjects that reflected life on the Gulf Coast.

The metal used to produce the plaques was recovered from the original bridge, destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Eighteen bronze plaques have been installed at intervals along the railing of the bridge's bicycle and pedestrian walkway.
