JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Jackson Medical Mall is announcing not one, but two new construction projects.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday starting the $4.5 million dollars in new construction for the area.
Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson says,"Creating opportunities for jobs but also providing an essential service to this area that is fresh food, and produce and a supermarket."
Save-A-Lot grocery stores will be one of the new tenants, building a new store on the south side of the mall.
Medical Mall visionary Dr. Aaron Shirley says, "Were promoting wellness and healthy eating and we'll be able to counsel our patients on what to eat, what not to eat, how to buy it, they won't have to go all across town to get produce."
Just to the north of the Medical Mall on Melvin Bender drive, American Medical Response plans to build a new regional headquarters on an empty lot.
It will include a 25,000 square foot building, home for 300 paramedics, medical technicians and support staff.
AMR General Manager for North Mississippi, Ed Powers says, "We moved here in 1997, we believed in the Medical Mall foundation vision then and we continue to support that vision."
In all, both companies say they can bring 180 jobs to the area, and promote more growth through their presence.
