March of Dimes chefs cook up something good for the cause

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The diaper for a premature baby is about the size of a young child's hand.  To help in its effort to prevent birth defects, infant mortality and premature births, the March of Dimes held its annual signature chefs event Thursday night at the Ag Museum.

The March of Dimes State Director, Ashley Nichols, mentioned how it was a bit of a downturn in 2009 but looks forward to bouncing back in 2010.

Nichols spoke highly of the gourmet chefs preparing the evening's cuisine.  "All of our chefs are on board, they're committed, regardless of what the economy has been like for them which is a huge statement for what they can do and a great impact on what we've got to do in the fight for prematurity in Mississippi"

Mississippi has the highest rate of pre-term births in the nation.  25 chefs in the Jackson metro area participated in tonight's fundraiser.
