Associated Press - October 15, 2010 8:24 AM ET Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree says four police officers have resigned amid a department internal investigation.
Police Chief Frazier Bolton says the focus is on "sloppy record keeping" and evidence collection after $3,500 went missing.
Bolton didn't release the names of the officers or which division they belonged to.
Bolton says what began with the Neighborhood Enhancement and Strike teams when the money went missing from evidence has now spread department-wide.
Bolton says the money was part of a case the department was working on, and police were trying to determine whether the money was associated with the drug trade before it turned up missing.
