HATTIESBURG, MS (WLBT) - The internal investigation of the Hattiesburg Police Department will remain internal at least for right now.
Four Hattiesburg Police Officers have turned in their resignations as a result of the investigation that found incidents of improper records keeping and poor handling of evidence. A fifth officer reportedly has been suspended.
The investigation centers around two special ops units including a strike team and a crime suppression unit. There is also $3,500 in cash held as evidence that is missing.
"Most of the time when you bring in, my understanding when you bring in other agencies, outside agencies you are investigating something criminal. And so we are not at that point yet," Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree said.
Mayor Johnny Dupree says at this time there have been no other resignations or suspensions.
