JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- Jackson's Jr. ROTC students got a chance to show off their highly polished skills on Saturday.
The JROTC drill and academic competition took place at Forest Hill High School. It is a semi-annual event where teams from JPS schools vie for trophies.
JROTC teaches leadership and character development. The teams take part in on-campus and off-campus activities throughout the school year."JPS has the largest program in the state of Mississippi, with over 2,260 students involved. 25% of the student body is enrolled in JROTC in Jackson", said Col. Paul Willis.
Wingfield is the overall champs in the drill competition. Jim Hill won the overall academic competition and Murrah was victorious in the overall cadet challenge. The grand prize of all the events is a plaque.. That will travel from school to school with the winning team.
