JACKSON, MS (WLBTA) - A collection of musicians and one of a kind art could be found in one spot Saturday night.
A crowd gathered at Hal and Mals in downtown Jackson for the third annual Heather Spencer Soulshine Memorial concert.
Spencer was killed by her boyfriend George Bell the third in 2007. Since then her family and friends have honored her memory by raising awareness about domestic abuse. The majority of the proceeds will go to the Mississippi Coalition against domestic abuse and a new program called the Heather Hope Grant.
"When a woman comes in and has to flee her home unexpectedly and has no where to go or has no money she needs either rent money or may need a cell phone or some help in some way these funds are readily available and we can help our immediately," said Linda Francomb, mother of Heather Spencer.
Several bands played throughout the night and there was a silent auction.
Our very own Julie Straw emceed the the event.
She said she took to the social media site to vent her frustration, never thinking the school would see her post. However, she also tagged it with the school's Facebook page.More >>
