JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Academy award winning actor and Mississippi native Morgan Freeman is in Jackson throwing his weight and name recognition behind Democrat Bill Luckett for Governor.

The Greenville businessman is canvassing the state with his longtime friend and business partner. Monday the pair visited the Mississippi Children's Home Services in Jackson.

"I'm out here early, gaining momentum, gaining name recognition I think my odds are excellent. I feel a ground swell of support all over the state," said Luckett.

"I've known Bill for a number of very good years. Learned a lot about him. I learned a lot of reasons to like him. Learned a lot of reasons to respect him in the idea of running for the Governorship of the state," said Freeman.

Luckett is criss-crossing Mississippi to raise money to run for governor. He is hoping Freeman will help boost his name recognition. His platform focuses on improving schools, creating a quality educational and jobs.
