BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - South Mississippi voters might not see a congressional debate before the Nov. 2 election.
Democratic congressman Gene Taylor wants a lived televised debate without a large audience. The 21-year incumbent says that would give people a chance to compare his knowledge with that of his Republican challenger, state Rep. Steven Palazzo.
Palazzo's spokesman, Hunter Lipscomb, says Palazzo wants to debate with "the accountability of an audience."
The University of Southern Mississippi and the Sun Herald offered to host a debate open to the public. Taylor declined.
WLOX-TV has offered to host a televised debate, but Lipscomb says the Palazzo campaign was leaning toward not accepting.
