SHARKEY COUNTY, MS (WLBT) -An almost unbelievable revelation in a year old murder mystery, making headlines in a small delta town.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation now saying they believe 31-year-old Karitha Carroll killed her daughter, then took her own life.
The two were found stabbed multiple times with their throats slashed on September 23rd of 2009, at their home on Highway 61 in the heart of Cary.
When Tony Stamps, the relative who found their bodies was arrested this week, it seemed like investigators may have been close to closing their case.
Stamps was charged with obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.
He was held for a short time in the Rankin County jail, authorities say for his own protection, but was then released on $5,000 bond.
Sources close to the investigation believe he may have moved items in the home, throwing investigators off.
That now raises question what was his motive for doing what he's accused of doing? And an even bigger mystery, what was troubling Karitha Carroll so much, that she would take her daughters life, and then her own.
