JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - MIld weather made it a perfect day to be outside and take in a fall festival.

That was the backdrop for Funfest 2010 Sunday at St. Richard Catholic School and Church.

The street in front of St. Richard was transformed into a carnival like atmosphere with families enjoying summer like conditions nearing the end of October.

The 12th annual Funfest is a fundraiser sponsored by the parent association.

"It's a bigger event than it's been in the past. Seems like everyone's having a great time," said St. Richard parent Christy Campbell.

She and husband Michael brought their young sons Michael and Preston.

"We do it to raise funds so we can continue to do fun things for the teachers, just various ways to support the school, but this is the first year we've had live music. We've had the city block off the street. We've had a lot more of the X Games for all the kids," said Christy Campbell.

"We attend this school and we're a part of the church. We just came out to have some fun. It's a beautiful day, great fall weather, ride a few rides and eat some snacks," said Michael Campbell.

Long lines formed for Sno-Cones and for a turn on the bungee and other fun activities.

There was live music and vendors selling unique hand crafted items.

"We just moved into our brand new building about a month ago, so there's a lot of things we want to put in it and this money's budgeted to go towards those things right there," said St. Richard Principal Jules Michel.

Money raised will also support St. Richard's Special Kids House.

The school offers programs for the physically and mentally challenged, ages five through 12 and 12 through 21.

"It's in its 29th year. We're the only non-public school in the state with a full special education program," added Michel.

Organizers hope to raise about $25,000.00.
