JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A fire at a south Jackson home Monday morning destroyed a house and resulted in the injury of three firefighters. Jackson Fire officials said that the three firefighters are at University of Mississippi Medical Center recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

The blaze broke out at approximately 6:50 Monday morning, according to Division Chief R. D. Simpson. Simpson said the cause of the fire remains under investigation and the two occupants of the home at 3107 Whitten Rd., made it out safely.

Simpson was not specific about the firefighters injuries, but said their injuries are indicatives of the dangers in their business.

"Going into a structure fire, any fire is very difficult, because it's unpredictable," Simpson described. "It's a lot of dangers that go into inside of a (burning) structure, but that is our job and we're trained to overcome that."
