FLOWOOD, MS (WLBT) - Trick or treaters woke up early Saturday to snatch the perfect costume.

"We had lines out the door when we opened," said Spirit Halloween Assistant Manager Veronica Sautier.

Those lines continued throughout the afternoon at Spirit Halloween in Jackson. "They're buying all the props, the displays are going fast," said Sautier.

More crowds were found at Party City in Ridgeland.  "Last year Halloween was on the weekend too.  So we're having a great year," said owner Scott Swalley.

When the sun went down the little ones started making their rounds.  Hundreds of families opted out of the Halloween tradition and came to Liberty Park in Flowood instead for the city's free festival "Kids Night Out."

"(We) don't have to go to all the houses with crime and everything.  So it's just a fun, safe environment for the kids," said Flowood father Roderick Lofton.

There were zoo animals, fairy princesses, scary vampires, movie characters, super heroes and sometimes there are too many options to choose just one.

"I think we're a gypsy fairy princess thing. Whatever she felt like doing," said Flowood mother Windi Case with daughter Olivia.  "It's amazing. I think it's wonderful.  It's all free.  I can't believe this is just awesome."

No tricks.  For parents and children alike the night was full of treats.
