COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - Residents have made complaints that a vicious pit bull attacked and killed other canines and a cat.

It happened in the Hopewell Community which is about seven miles east of Crystal Springs off Highway 27.

When 3 On Your Side got to the place where the dog was supposed to be, we found that it had been shot to death.

The Joe Cooper Family, owners of the dog, were in the process of burying it.

The lady who contacted us, Pamela Anderson, did not answer her phone or return any messages.

Anderson's neighbors confirmed her story.

Sheriff Harold Jones, of Copiah County, confirmed his office received complaints about the pit bull

"The one who owned the dog had been put in the penitentiary on a drug related charge, and unfortunately I couldn't get him to take the dog with him to the penitentiary. We have been trying to catch the dog, we have been unsuccessful in that attempt. I contacted the dog owner's father, and the father I think is taking steps to apprehend the dog." Sheriff Jones said.

3 On Your Side was never able to contact the person who originally complained to us.

Anderson's neighbors, who confirmed her story, were not willing to go on camera.

Sheriff Jones told us Copiah County does not have a leash law, a place to keep dogs or cats or anybody to take care of them.
