PORT GIBSON, Miss. (WLBT) - 3 On Your Side received reports of a dog being tied up and starved to death in Port Gibson.

3 On Your Side was told this two year old German Sheppard was being intentionally starved to death, in Port Gibson, Mississippi.

A Facebook.com web site, "Dogs Deserve Better in Ohio", contacted us saying the dog was tied up without food or water behind a house at 803 Marginal St.

3 On Your Side went to the site and found the dog was gone, with a cable it had been tied to, left on the ground.

It's food and water dishes were empty.

The owner of the dog denied the website report.

She is Chanel Reed.

"I give her water and food and my husband also, so when he get off from work he feeds her and give her water, only reason why she is tied up, is a lot of traffic be coming through here, every night in the streets and we don't want her to get run over, and somebody try to steal her." Reed said.

A neighbor confirmed the dog was frequently left tied up with it's food and water dishes overturned.

3 On Your Side discovered the dog had been taken into the custody of the Port Gibson Police Dept.

Chief Calvin Jackson of Port Gibson Police was very cooperative in letting us see the dog and telling us the owner had agreed to put it up for adoption.

"I wish is could take it in but my wife ain't gonna let me have it. Like I say I wish I could take it in, but, she's a beauty, she's really a beauty, hopefully somebody will be able to find her a good home."

This is a story with a happy ending, Blackie was not starving to death, and will be put up for adoption.

If you would like more information on Blackie, contact the Port Gibson Police Dept. at 601-437-5101.
