JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Republican Gregg Harper of Pearl won a second term Tuesday in central Mississippi's 3rd Congressional District. Harper defeated the same opponent as in 2008, Democrat Joel Gill of Pickens. The Reform Party's Tracella Lou O'Hara Hill of Hattiesburg also ran this year.
Democrat Bennie Thompson won another term in the Delta-to-Jackson 2nd District, which he has represented since 1993. He defeated Republican Bill Marcy and the Reform Party's Ashley Norwood.
In north Mississippi's 1st District, Democrat Travis Childers was trying to keep the seat he's held since May 2008. He was challenged by Republican state Sen. Alan Nunnelee.
In the southern 4th District, Democrat Gene Taylor was trying to fend off a challenge from Republican state Rep. Steven Palazzo. Taylor's been in Congress since 1989.
