The attorney representing actor Gary Collins said reports about an accident in Jackson Tuesday were exaggerated.  Collins was involved in an accident on the I-55 Frontage Road at Old Canton Road around 4:30 Tuesday evening.

Reports have circulated that Jackson police have issued an arrest warrant.  Jackson attorney Tom Royals said that is not true.

WLBT learned a citation was issued to Collins Tuesday for leaving the scene of an accident.

Police told WLBT a witness said Collins rear-ended her car with his jeep. The driver of that car was 48-year-old Cheryl Shales.

Royals said he and Collins have contacted police and he knows of no warrant for his arrest.

Royals also said, "Gary was following some people he knew and bumped them from behind. He got out of the car and visited with these people for a while and then he left before the police got there, after everybody knew who he was. I called the police to see if they wanted to talk to him, and we made him available at all times and they have not requested to talk to him."

Collins is married to Mary Ann Mobley, a former Miss America from Brandon.  Mobley is recovering from stage 3 breast cancer.  She told us tonight she has finished treatments and her hair is coming back.

Over the last 10 years... Collins has been arrested on three occasions for driving under the influence.
