Miss. school board to hear block sked proposal

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - The Lafayette County School Board may implement a block schedule at the high school.

The Oxford Eagle reports that the county board expects to hear more details from Lafayette High School principal Rodney Flowers at its Dec. 7 meeting.

Flowers says a four-by-four block schedule would allow for four, 90-minute periods instead of 7 periods a day.

Flowers says the change would help students who need more than 50 minutes in a class room with their teacher as well as address disciplinary problems with students spending time in the halls in between classes.

Flowers says under the block scheduling, seniors could have more free time in the afternoons to dual enroll at a community college and it could allow for early graduation for advanced students.
