FLOWOOD, MS (WLBT) - Flowood has invested $50,000 in building the new radio-controlled race track inside a building that once housed Courthouse Gymnastics.

A state of the art dirt track is expected to be ready for use as soon as the middle of November.

Flowood mayor, Gary Rhoads, said Nathan "Bubba" Burham, the owner of Innovative Food Services, convinced city officials to renovate the building.  Burham is offering his services to oversee the project for free.

"This is the only city owned, off-road indoor track in the world.  There is not another in the United States, there's not." said Burham.

Chad Wilson, who sells radio-controlled cars at his Hobbytown U.S.A. shop, is all for the project.

Wilson said, "I think what the city of Flowood has done is excellent and I think it's gonna be a good thing between the businesses, the city, motels, restaurants.  I think it's gonna be a real good thing."

Another Flowood hobby shop and race track owner, Lee Collins of Nitro Toys and Hobbies, won't talk on camera about the Flowood project but said he will take a "wait and see" attitude about whether it is a good project.
