Conviction upheld in Holmes Co. slaying

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Supreme Court has upheld the life sentence given Kenneth Moore Jr. for a shooting death of another man outside a Holmes County nightclub in 2007.

Moore was convicted of murder in 2008 in the slaying of Cordarius McChriston.

According to court records, Moore and McChriston got into a fight outside the Club Greasy. After the fight was broken up, Moore got a gun and shot McChriston in the chest.

On appeal, Moore argued that he killed McChriston in the heat of passion, which was manslaughter not murder.

The Supreme Court said evidence showed Moore was walked away from the scene of the fight by his brother only to turn around and deliberately walk up to McChriston and shoot him.
