JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- For many a drop in temperatures usually means it's time to break out the space heater. But be careful how you use those portable heaters.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has some tips about how to safely use space heaters.
They say never use the electric heater to dry clothing or to heat frozen pipes. Keep the heater in safe working order and replace any missing guards or controls immediately.
Don't put the heater where children might burn themselves or knock it over. Always make sure you have a functioning smoke detector on every floor of your home.
