JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jackson Police are investigating the events surrounding an officer involved shooting Sunday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 2:45 Sunday afternoon in the 500 block of Fryant Ave. near St. Charles Street in west Jackson.
According to Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green, a female officer was responding to a call of a suspicious person in that neighborhood.
As the officer arrived on scene and exited her vehicle the man approached and a struggle ensued.
In an effort to defend herself, the officer fired at the man striking him in the arm.
American Medical Response transported the unidentified man to University Medical Center.
His injuries are not life threatening.
"You always have to be on guard for any situation. We pretty much have a heavy situation. It's very dangerous for us being police officers. So we make sure we're guarded and we're also out here to protect the public", Officer Green said.
The female officer was not injured in the altercation.
Jackson Police are not saying whether the suspect had a weapon.
