Company collects used bras for cancer survivors

Posted: Updated:

DALLAS, TX (NBC) - What do you do with those ill-fitting or unflattering bras that are sitting in the back of your drawer unused? There's a company out there offering a solution, and offering to help other women in the process.

The Bra Recyclers is a textile recycling company based in Arizona. It's a for-profit company that offers an environmentally-friendly way to donate bras to breast cancer survivors and women in transitional shelters.

"A lot of these women that come to the shelters, they run out of the house and they don't take anything, and they might not even have a bra on when they leave," said Paula Guthrie, who is the Dallas coordinator for the project. "So it's an important piece of a lady's apparel."

Guthrie has a box set up at the front door of her North Dallas plus-size clothing store, Bodacious Boutique, where anyone can come in and drop off any bra they don't want or need. Every few weeks they box them up and mail them to Arizona.

"It doesn't matter what size, what shape you are, we'll take them," Guthrie said. "It doesn't matter what condition they're in, we want all of them that you don't want."
