KOSCIUSKO, MS (WLBT) - There were two Veterans Day observances Thursday in Kosciusko. The first was at Parkway Cemetery, the second at the State Veterans Home.

At Parkway Cemetery, near the Natchez Trace, there were a total of 326 large flags along a road through the center of the cemetery. At the base of each flag was the name of a world war two veteran buried there.

An estimated 350 people attended the ceremony there that lasted about 45 minutes. It was complete with American legion motorcycle riders and a march by veterans.

Later, at the state nursing home, there was a similar ceremony. 150 veterans live in this state of the art facility.

The featured speaker at both ceremonies was Lt. Governor Phil Bryant.

"326 great veterans are represented here, with these flags that are behind us" Bryant said. "This isle of honor, is something that you just can't find many places in this state. As touching as it is, we are just very honored to be here and say thank you, to these great veterans. We would have no freedoms without them."

A total of about 500 people were involved in the two Veterans Day ceremonies in Attala County.
