BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - A taxi driver says he's upset that a fellow veteran died in his cab shortly after he picked up the man up from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Biloxi.
The driver, David Winters, says that he picked up 61-year-old David Charles Miller about 4 a.m. Oct. 20 outside the VA emergency room.
Winters says Miller was sitting on the curb in front of a wheelchair and looked "pretty doped up."
The driver says he and a security guard picked Miller up and put him in the back seat.
Winters says he checked on Miller a few times, but Miller was dead when they arrived at the passenger's Gautier apartment.
The hospital's public affairs officer, Roy Griggs, says the VA is investigating.
