GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A Pass Christian, Miss., man is in a London hospital recovering from a gunshot wound sustained Monday when pirates attacked the oil rig where he was working off the coast of Nigeria.
Another Mississippi man was taken hostage in the raid.
The Sun Herald reports 58-year-old James "Butch" Johnson of Pass Christian was shot in the leg during the attack. He was airlifted off the rig and ultimately taken to a hospital in London. He had surgery and faces another operation next week.
Johnson tells the newspaper in a telephone interview from the hospital that a bullet splintered a bone in his leg.
